Tatiana Rakhmanina was born in St.Petersburg, Russia. The art of making hats was passed on to her by her grandmother, Larissa who was a milliner in “the golden age of hats” – the first half of the 20th century. Tatiana made her first ‘serious” hat when she was twelve years old. It was a hit among friends and relatives and since then she has been making beautiful hats for all occasions.

Tatiana’s study of languages and world cultures led to a fascination with historical costume and headwear. She honed her hat making skills at an avant-garde theater in St. Petersburg, and upon moving to the United States in 1990 she took up millinery as a life style.

Tatiana’s hats have been featured in Fine Art Museums and Runway Fashion shows around North America.

Her designs have graced the heads of the most elegant Kentucky Derby ladies. Rakhmanina hats adorn heads around the world:  in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Brazil, Russia and Japan.

Tatiana Rakhmanina specializes in fine ladies’ hats, which are designed and made by Tatiana Rakhmanina. The hats are made of quality velvets, wools, leather, cottons, silks, linens, straws and other natural and man made fabrics and are fully lined in natural materials for comfort. Each Rakhmanina hat is a truly one-of-a-kind made from scratch creation. On many occasions the artist creates the fabric a particular hat is to be made from. The amount of the handmade fabric is usually
just enough for one hat.

Rakhmanina Hats also features hatpins, fabric flowers and scarves, which are created individually for each hat at the studio. Tatiana’s flowers are made from the individually fashioned organza fabric ribbons.

The romantic and feminine fashions of the first half of the twentieth century, as well as the works of some modern artists inspire many of Tatiana’s designs.

Tatiana personally designs, executes and signs every hat in her West Virginia, USA Mountain Studio.

“Undulating brims, yards of silk and satin, velvets, ribbons, bows and beads are dramatically assembled together for everyone from divas to would-be wallflowers. Some hats are eye grabbing show-stoppers -- sure to deliver a very grand entrance. Others are more subtle, shading your face and giving your eyes a place from which to peer demurely.”
